A long time Alaska resident, Dorothy Roberts, passed away peacefully on Feb. 14, 2018, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Dorothy was born on Oct. 11, 1925, in New York Mills, Minn., on a farm and later married Bruce Roberts in 1945. In 1955, the family ended up in Anchorage at Elmendorf Air Force Base, where Bruce was a pilot. They were active at Anchor Park Methodist Church.
Dorothy worked at the Alaska Native Hospital and later continued as a Hospice nurse for many years in Chugiak, Alaska. Dorothy taught with the Anchorage Literacy Program and volunteered with Stephens Ministries.
She loved to quilt. She could bake the best homemade pies. A fantastic gardener, she shared her kale, broccoli and raspberries with many. She once ran a bed-and-breakfast at their log home. She and Bruce traveled to Brazil, China and Germany. She even ventured to Italy and Thailand.
She was an avid hiker, even skiing sometimes, with her Chugiak group and often picked blueberries. Writing was another interest.
In later years she enjoyed walking at Goose Lake, Potter Marsh, the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail or at a park, or taking art classes at the , and interacting with family and friends. She loved a treat like a great-grandchild's soccer game or concert at West High.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Kathy DeSchweinitz, Barbara Roberts, Bruce Roberts and Lorelei Crewdson; daughter-in-law, Paulette Roberts; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy's brothers, Kenneth Rimpila and Ben Rimpila from Minnesota, preceded her in death.
Also her husband, Bruce Roberts; son, Paul Roberts; and grandson, Brian Roberts.
The memorial service will be held at Anchor Park Methodist Church, 2500 Oak Drive in Anchorage, on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at 1 p.m.
Dorothy would welcome donations to Birchwood Camp and the .
