Eric Douglas Lee passed away on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, in Payson, Ariz., after losing a valiant battle with cancer. He was born on April 23, 1947, in Brigham City, Utah, the second son of Morris K. Lee and Oreta P. Hawks. He was raised in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1965, then attended Weber State College and graduated with a Mathematics degree. He married Mary Jane Lemon and with this marriage they had two sons. Then they were divorced. Doug married his sweetheart, Elisabeth Shields, in 1979. After college, Doug enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a pilot, where he learned to love flying. This love of flying led to a lifelong career in aviation. He flew as a bush pilot in Alaska for Ketchum Air Service, and then went on to fly C-84s, DC-6s and 727s for Northern Air Cargo. Doug also became a consultant and pilot for the Flying Bulls, an affiliate of Red Bull, in Austria, and certified a beautifully restored DC-6. Throughout Doug's life, his flying career took him to many parts of the world where he made lifelong friends. In addition to aviation, Doug was a passionate outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing in Alaska and other parts of the country. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ducks Unlimited, 901-758-3986, in loving memory of Eric Douglas Lee. Surviving are his loving wife, Elisabeth (Shields) Lee,; two sons from a previous marriage, Craig (Karen) Lee of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ronald (Chalice) Gustaveson of Ogden, Utah; and three stepchildren, Anne (Mark) Knight of Anchorage, Andrew Engstrom of Juneau, Alaska, and Jennifer (Ken) Alexander of Anchorage; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Jerry A. (Audreen) Morris of Centerville, Utah, Janet M. (Lee) Williams of Brigham City, Utah, and Charles K. (Bonnie) Lee of Lincoln, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rebecca Lee. Funeral services will be held on Sept. 18, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South in Brigham City, Utah.
