Toni Stanton, 95, died unexpectedly on May 4, 2018, in Roseburg, Ore. She was born on Nov. 27, 1922, in El Paso, Texas, to Douglas and Lois Maples. She graduated from Deming High School in New Mexico in 1939, and met the love of her life and future husband, Robert Stanton, while on vacation in Seward, Alaska. They were married in Seward on Dec. 18, 1942, and raised their four children there. In 1975, they moved to Springfield, Ore., on the McKenzie River and later to Bellingham, Wash. In 2014, they relocated to Roseburg, Ore., to be near their two daughters. On Dec. 18, 2017, Bob and Toni celebrated 75 years of marriage.
Toni was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, golf, bowling, water skiing, snow skiing, reading, music, bingo, pinochle and being with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Robert Stanton Jr. (Charlene); daughter, Sharon Comstock (Jon); son, Doug Stanton (Marianne); daughter, Michelle Long (Sam); nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Faye, and her grandson, Robert Stanton III, both in 1991.
At her request, there will be no service and she will be interred in the National Veteran's Cemetery in Roseburg, Ore. A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
