Fannie Underwood, 94, passed away on Dec. 25, 2017. A service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Wasilla Heritage Chapel at 1015 South Check Street in Wasilla, Alaska, at 3:30 p.m., on Dec. 30, 2017, with burial at Fort Richardson.
Fannie was born on June 28, 1923, in Dexter, Ark., to Charles and Nellie Musgrove. During World War II she worked at a wire rope factory in California. While there, she met soldier Ted Underwood. They married on May 11, 1946, in Butte, Mont., and moved to Alaska in 1951. They homesteaded in Peters Creek and raised their children there. Ted preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 2000.
The Christmas gift she most desired this year was for her children, all the way to her great-great-granddaughter to be together, enjoying each other and laughing. She received that gift! Being the Mrs. Claus that she was, wanting to give to everyone in a big way, she gave them all the gift of knowing she was having the best Christmas ever in heaven.
Fannie's greatest joy in life was giving to others. Her generous heart changed many lives. Friends, family and loved ones never left her house without food, treats, or anything she thought they could use or enjoy. If you did not live close, you received them by mail. She was known for her perfectly coiffed, never out of place, beautiful silver hair, a take charge attitude, quick wit and lovely smile. She is loved and will be missed by so many.
She is survived by her brother, Ernest Musgrove of Star City, Ark.; her sister, Dorthy Terry of Mesquite, Nev.; her son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Rachel Underwood; daughter, Debbie Underwood and partner, Frank Chamberlain; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Underwood and Rick Sipes; son and daughter-in-law, David and Patricia Underwood; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews! Other special loved ones include her favorite child, Missy, a long-haired Chihuahua, and her numerous four-legged granddogs. Fannie's brother once stated he hoped to come back as one of Fannie's dogs, because no one lived better than they did. So, in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Friends of Pets or another animal in her name.
