Faye Gabbert Obituary

Faye V. Gabbert, 84, passed away peacefully at Providence Hospital June 25, 2011.

Born June 16, 1927 in Portsmouth, Ohio to William Sydney and Alma Ethel King (nee Lovins), she graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1946 with the fitting yearbook inscription: "O, She doth teach the torches to burn bright, Her beauty hangs upon the cheek of night, Like a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear."

Faye married Roy E. Gabbert in 1947 and worked to put him through law school at Ohio State University. They moved to West Union, Ohio where he opened his law practice in 1952. She moved to Brooksville, Florida in 1960 and resided in the Tampa Bay area most of the next 35 years. In 1995 she came to Alaska to live with her daughters. In 2007, she moved to St. Timothy Home coming under the loving care of Romy and Irene Escalante.

Faye was a woman of beauty and humility with a shy demeanor. She had a strong moral compass, being always true to her belief in what was honest and fair. She had a soft spot for the underdog, but was also a formidable businesswoman, a franchise owner, and District Supervisor over 10 stores for PDQ Corporation before retirement. Faye's keen memory served her well as the family crossword puzzle aficionado. She could recite Antony's eulogy for Caesar and the Gettysburg Address. She loved to bake and would often be found singing a happy tune. Her greatest passion was her daughters and her grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters, Robin Jager-Gabbert and Terri Collins and their husbands Con Jager and Nathan Collins of Anchorage; grandchildren, Timothy "TJ" Gabbert of St. Louis, Christopher Helms of Virginia, Willem Jager, Marieke Jager and Nickalaus Collins all of Anchorage; great grandchildren Aaron, Samantha and Madison Gabbert, and Jackson, Grayson, and Avery Grace Helms; sister, Opal Yates of Lutz, Florida; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday June 28, 2011 at Anchorage Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Resource of Alaska.
