Longtime Anchorage resident, Frances Lee Gleason, 79, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 30, 2016 at her home in Anchorage.
The family will be planning memorial services to be announced at a future date.
Frances was born February 12, 1937 to Robert & Nina Maude (Croswhite) Powell in Mexico, Missouri. After high school, she pursued a BA degree at Columbia College in Columbia, MO, and a Master's Degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. Frances moved to Anchorage in 1966 and began a forty-plus year career with the Anchorage School District as a Kindergarten Teacher. She retired in 2006, keeping photos of every class of students she taught. Frances was a member of the AMVETS, and she enjoyed singing karaoke.
"Frances will be remembered for her generous heart and for her gift of making people feel at home. She gave time freely to those whose lives she touched. Fran was a fun-loving mom and a talented teacher dedicated to her students. She had a soft spot for animals and was never without a dog. Frances loved music and was often behind the mic, crooning Patsy Cline," wrote the family.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Denise Johnson of Katy, TX; son, Jerry Lee Gleason of Anchorage, AK; grandsons, Connell R. Johnson of Dallas, TX, Pary E. Johnson of Katy, TX, and Javin McCord of Vancouver, WA.
