Gerald "Gerry" Martin, passed away on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, at his home, at the age of 91. Born in Bellingham, Wash., Gerry lived a good part of his life in Anchorage, Alaska. Gerry, a Navy veteran, served our country during World War II and was stationed on the USS St. Louis. He was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation for heroism in action and the Purple Heart for injuries endured during the battles of Kula Gulf and Kolombangara, and the Philippine Islands and Okinawa Campaigns. Gerry was one of the last living survivors of Pearl Harbor in the state of Alaska and was interviewed by the local news several times. Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, Della and Albert Martin; his wife, Nida; his sister, Donna Love; and brother, Thomas Martin. Gerry is survived by his daughter, Randi (Martin) Gayewski; son, Jon Martin; and nieces and nephews. Gerry was an avid poker player and per his wishes, will be remembered in a private ceremony by those who enjoyed his passion for a good game of Texas Hold'em. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Arianna Assisted Living home. The owner, Robert Pentecostes and Gerry's main caregiver, Bubbles, who so lovingly cared for Gerry. Their love and dedication to quality care during Gerry's last years was a God sent blessing to the entire family. Arrangements with Cremation Society of Alaska.
