Our loving mother, Gloria H. "Dee" Reekie, 80 years old, passed away on March 14, 2017.
A celebration of her life will be held at Kehls Palmer Mortuary, 209 South Alaska Street in Palmer, Alaska, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.
Her final resting place will be Hillcrest Memorial Park, Grants Pass, Ore.
Dee was born on Feb. 2, 1937, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Sylvia and Bill Hume. She and her family moved to Alaska in the spring of 1953. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1954. She and her husband, Jack, raised their family in Anchorage, Wrangell and Ketchikan, Alaska.
Dee had a successful career as a real estate broker and licensing instructor for over 30 years in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley.
Dee enjoyed hunting, camping, scouting and bowling with family and friends. Her hobbies included reading, horsemanship, needlework, baking and watching Mariner's baseball.
Dee loved her family unconditionally and never stopped encouraging them to do their best. Her grandchildren were the loves of her life; she cherished every moment she spent with them.
Dee is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Kathie and Jim Morino of Edmonds, Wash., Pattie and Collin Maynard of Anchorage, Alaska, and Beccie and Mike Morino of Palmer, Alaska; seven grandchildren, Shyann and husband Tony Hjaltin of Des Moines, Wash., James Stedman of Ballard, Wash., Alissa Morino of Ballard, Wash., Spence Morino of Ballard, Wash., Toni Persons of Anchorage, Alaska, Thomas Morino of Anchorage, Alaska, and Alec Morino of Edmonds, Wash.; brothers, Bill Hume of Kona, Hawaii, and Jay Hume of Arizona; sister, Colleen Martin of Grants Pass, Ore.; and much loved nieces and nephews and all those who called her "Grandma Dee."
Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Sylvia Hume; brother, Ted Kennedy; great-nephew, Devon Kennedy; and nephew, Bruce Reekie.
It was Dee's desire that memorial donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, woundedwarriorproject.org; or your local blood bank.
