Gordon Eugene Green was born on Dec. 7, 1927, in Rock Valley, Iowa, to Glen Ray Green and Emma Louise Schmeiser Green. He passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, in Tucson, Ariz. He would have been 90 on his next birthday. He was a cherished husband, loving father and great-grandfather.
A small family gathering was held in his honor in Oro Valley, Ariz., where he and his wife, Viola Grace Wilson Green, have made their home for almost 30 years. Gordon spent most of his childhood years in Marshall, Minn. He was the little brother to two sisters, Vivian Green Traxinger and Shirley Green Schneider, both of whom have predeceased him.
Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946, serving at Fort Bragg and Tokyo, Japan. Upon discharge he continued his education at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1951. He married Viola in 1952 and they headed to Alaska to embark on a new adventure and the start of his life-long career.
Gordon and Viola settled in Anchorage, Alaska, and had two children: Douglas Gordon Green and Teresa Ann Green. While in Alaska, they enjoyed living close to their six grandchildren and had many wonderful holidays and family times together.
In 1974, Gordon assisted his wife in opening and managing an amazing downtown Art Gallery on 7th Avenue, "The Gallery." Many local artists give them credit for launching their careers. Gordon was on hand for many openings and shows, working beside his wife in this successful venture.
Gordon loved to travel and golf. Together he and Viola experienced many parts of the world including Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and more ... 65 years of love and adventure.
During their retirement years, Gordon and Viola split their time between Anchorage; Waikoloa, Hawaii; Tucson, Ariz.; and their cabin at Kenai Lake. They eventually made their permanent home in the foothills of the Catalinas, Oro Valley, Ariz.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Viola; his two children, Douglas Gordon Green (Lynne Watson Green) of Eagle River, Alaska, and Teresa Ann Green Gifford (Ted Leslie Gifford) of Green Bay, Wis.; six grandchildren, Duncan Hazen Gifford (Laura Boychenko Gifford), Ethan Andrew Gifford (Kristin Castillo Gifford), Megan Green Walburger (Derick Walburger), Jessica Ellen Green Ostermiller (Nate Ostermiller), Katelyn Elayne Green Ryskamp (Jordan Ryskamp) and Carter Douglas Green (Tamanna Kalra Green); and soon-to-be 11 great-grandchildren.
He will always remain dear to our hearts and vivid in our memories.
