Lena & Family; Love & Prayers to you & your family. I send you sincere condolences. Herbie truly walked the walk of our native culture: taking time to hear your 'say so', giving rides, sharing native food, stories, & fellowship. Quiet man but full of love for his family; and when he spoke it was with kindness & sincerity.
Much love to you, Lena, you had a great husband, father, & family-oriented man of God.
Love, Marilyn
P.S. I called his classmate, my brother, Axel Mills, to let him know of Herbie, because Herb always asked about my bro.

A life well lived. Herb's love for his ancestral home, language and culture, his wife and family were clear and unmistakable. He was not one to waste time, and he put his heart into his work and into the causes he supported. Many good memories of him and admiration. God speed Herb. My condolences to Lena and the rest of his family.

Sincere condolences to the family, especially to his sons of whom he was so proud of and to his brothers and twin sisters. He was so dedicated to his job at raising awareness of respecting wildlife. Our house will forever cut up the pop can plastic ties, as he demonstrated, so no birds would ever get trapped in them. He quietly practiced his native and spiritual values. Peace to his memory.

Oh Lena, I am so very sorry. "Herbie" was one of my favorite people, and when I transferred from Anchorage in 1999, his was one of the pictures I brought with me to my job here at the Yakima Vet Center. The picture is of him and Leehara, and they are both grinning. That photo has hung on my office wall for more than ten years as a reminder of family pride and the power of military comrademanship. It will stay there for another ten, at least.

My sincere condolences to you and your family. Herb was a fine, fine man and he loved you all so much.
