Beloved Alaskan Ian Thomas Ottley passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 4, 2017, after an extended battle with various health issues. He will be dearly missed.
Ian was born in West Covina, Calif., on April 6, 1976, and was adopted at birth by his parents, Thomas and Roxie Ottley. Ian was raised in Anchorage, Alaska, with his brother, Morgan. As a child he played sports, sharing his father's love for hockey. Ian graduated from West High School in 1994. He left Alaska, where he lived in Washington for a short time, and then Arizona, where he graduated from The Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and eventually made his way back home to Alaska.
Ian enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling and riding his Harley, and had a love for tattoos. He took pride in his vehicles, which were like him: unique and beautiful. You would often see him working on them or washing them in the driveway.
Ian was a loving father, son, brother, grandson, uncle and friend. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh and great sense of humor, as a mentor, and for his selflessness, loving and caring spirit.
He is survived by his children, Dayton Brown and Scott Bergsrud; parents, Thomas and Roxie Ottley; brother, Morgan Ottley (Monica Dunlap); aunt, Melissa Anderson Roberts; uncle, Bill Besser Jr.; cousin, Katie Anderson; nephew, Devonte Dunlap; and girlfriend, Terri Ridley. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Bill and Irma Besser, Harold and Donna Ottley; and aunt, Sue Couch.
There will be a small gathering to honor Ian's memory at Guido's Pizza, 549 West International Airport Road in Anchorage, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017. Family and friends are welcome to come and share their memories.
Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
