James Oliver Dix II, age 83, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Nov. 26, 2017, at Alaska Regional Hospital.
James was born on July 6, 1934, in Bellingham, Wash., to Willard and Thelma (Hendrickson) Dix. After high school, James entered the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country for 20 years before retirement. He later found his second career in car sales, working in Anchorage for Anchorage Chrysler, Cal Worthington, Nye Toyota and Pacific Motors.
He was a fishing enthusiast and, in his earlier years, was an avid deep sea diver and loved to explore with his metal detector.
His family said: "Dad's favorite thing to do was to fish the Kenai and land those rainbows. He led a colorful life and we sure could tell some tales. A tribute will be held next opening season in his honor. He loved Alaska and wanted to live here his entire life."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Thelma; and grandson, James Oliver Dix IV.
James is survived by his loving wife, Michelle; son, James Oliver Dix III; daughter, Laura Gabel and husband Marvin; granddaughters, Stephanie Gabel, Sarah Dix and Megan McDaniel of Maine; grandson, Jeremy Gabel of Columbus, Ohio; great-granddaughter, Mieka McDaniel; and sisters, Hope Hanson and Maddy Dix, both of Bellingham, Wash.
A Celebration of James' Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at Gallo's Mexican Restaurant, 8615 Old Seward Highway in Anchorage.
In lieu of flowers, please give in James' name to the cancer research, diabetes research or conservation preservation .
