James Edward Corbett Jr. was born in Altoona, Pa., on Feb. 5, 1935, to Mr. and Mrs. James Corbett Sr. Mr. Corbett died at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson hospital on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, and passed away peacefully from complications of pneumonia. He was 83 years of age.
Mr. Corbett served in the military for 20 years, where he retired as a Staff Sergeant. He also worked for the State of Alaska as a Correctional Officer for 18 years until his retirement.
Mr. Corbett was a loving, kind and gentle husband. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Erma Jean Corbett; and his children, Jamon, William, Laura, Bryan, Christina and Cameron; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mr. Corbett was predeceased by his parents, Bertha and James Corbett Sr.; his brothers, Ronald and Dennis Corbett; his sisters, Joyce, Marjorie and Vivian; and his daughter, Melinda.
The celebration of life will be held at the First Christian Methodist Episcopal Church on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at 1 p.m. Viewing will be held prior to the service. The Repass will be held immediately after the service. Pastor Yolanda Jackson will officiate the service. Pastor Jerry Webb will deliver the eulogy.
The pallbearers include: his son, Cameron Corbett, and grandsons, Guy Johnson, LaJuan Ambler, Ferss Corbett, Dupree Corbett and William Corbett Jr. Honorary pallbearer is Jamaal Williams.
Mr. Corbett will be cremated and his ashes will be spread in Seward, Alaska, at one of his favorite fishing spots. Legacy Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. To view a full obituary, visit www.legacyalaska.com.
