There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They are messengers of overwhelming grief and of unspeakable love~Washingtom Irving

There are few men as dedicated to their profession as Chief Evans. I met him and he said "my friends call me Babe", as a young firefighter I was too astonished to call him that. He remained for all the years I knew him "CHIEF". His dedication to the profession was without parallel and many of us benefited from his efforts. His stories kept us amused while teaching what we needed to know. He will be missed.

Chief Evans was a kind man and ahead of his time. I met him in 1978 when I was hired by the Anchorage Fire Department. He took me aside and gave me father/friend advice to help me meet the demands of the department. I used that advice daily. This gentle man will be missed by so many. My deepest sympathy for his family and friends.

Thanks Chief Evans for being my mentor and providing the training I needed to be a firefighter with the Anchorage Fire Dept. You were always available to answer questions and provide support when needed. You made a positive difference in the lives of a lot of young firefighers, and some not so young.
GOD BLESS,

My deepest sympathy for this family. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I didn't have the pleasure to meet Mr. Evans, but done have his son James (Jim Bob)and family as a friend. Jim has share some stories of his father, and I see the likeness of the two!

I have been blessed to have known Babe and Donna. They were like my adopted parents when I was in college at UAA back in the 90's. We are very thankful to have visited with them last summer, and to hear Babe call me Carla May! Donna, you are in our prayers.

Anyone who met 'Babe' in the fire world came to know him as a dedicated devotee of the profession. His contributions are countless.
On a more personal basis, Babe was a great guy who would offer counsel or a joke any time you were in his presence.
Babe was a wonderful man and friend.
Certainly he was better able to be this great contributor because of the support of his wonderful wife, Donna. My condolences to you Donna, and the rest of the family.
The fire service bell will ring clear and loud to sound this 'last alarm.'
