James A. "Jim" Hart Jr., 58, recently of North Pole, died Sept. 22, 2007, at Luther-Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire., Wis.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Eau Claire.
Jim was born June 20, 1949, to James and Betty (Mittelstadt) Hart in Eau Claire. He attended St. Patrick's Grade School and Eau Claire Regis High School, and worked at Uniroyal for several years.
In 1974, he moved to Alaska to work on the trans-Alaska pipeline, first at the Isabel Pass base camp. Later he accepted various positions of increasing responsibility in materials management at Alyeska Pipeline Service Co.
Jim's many passions included sitting on the board of directors for the Yukon Quest, other volunteer activities, and riding his lawn mower on the banks of Badger Slough in North Pole.
Jim was united in marriage to Cindy Cutler on Dec. 31, 1977. Jim and Cindy made their home in North Pole for more than 25 years before relocating to Eau Claire in 2002 after the death of Jim's brother, John Patrick Hart, in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
His family wrote: "Jim had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Mattie and Heidi. We would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Nambudiri and the nurses at Luther Hospital who took such good care of Jim during his many visits. He called you his Earth Angels."
Jim is survived by his wife, Cindy; five children, Hanna and John Blankenship, and Daniel and Alisha Hart, all of North Pole, Joseph Hart and Amy Hart of Eau Claire, and Angela Hart of Burnsville, Minn.; his five grandchildren, Kaden of North Pole, Amber and Rachel of Eau Claire, and Julia and Christian of Burnsville; his mother and stepfather, Betty Hart Mathwig and Ed Mathwig of Eau Claire; his four sisters, Christine Hart Reichert and Sandra Hart Shelley (Tim), all of Eau Claire, Jeanine Hart of San Diego, Calif., Mary Hart Meixelsperger (Jeff) of Middleton, Wis., and his sister-in-law, Laurie Hart of Hudson, Ohio; stepbrother, James Mathwig (Patti), Tucson, Ariz.; and stepsisters, Joyce Wheeler (Rich) of Millbrae, Calif., Judy Kirk (Dennis) of Reno, Nev., and Mary Jane Brazil (Greg) of Albany, Calif. Jim is also survived by nieces and nephews, Jaime and Alexander, Austin, and McKenzie, Jared, Brandon, Eric and Nicole, all of Eau Claire, Bradley and J. Todd of San Diego, Katelyn and Anna, Jenny and John, all of Middleton, Jeff, Amy, Olivia and Samuel and Emily, all of Hudson, and many aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in- law and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Hart Sr.; his brother, John Patrick Hart, his maternal grandparents, Pearl and Fred Mittelstadt; and his paternal grandparents, Tena and Arthur Hart.
