James Jackson Obituary

A celebration of life will be held in the near future for James "Jack" S. Jackson, who passed away on May 4, 2011, after heart surgery complications in Springfield, Ore. He was 76 years of age.

He was born Sept. 14, 1934. in Salem, Ore., to Edith Iona Buck and Arthur Edwin Jackson.

Jack spent most (over 40 years) of his working life in the Anchorage area as a laborer/foreman of underground utilities projects.

He and his late wife, Ruth, had a homestead in Alaska and raised five sons and one daughter there before retiring to Florence, Ore., in 2000.

He leaves his wife of eight years, Sandra Lee Jackson of Florence, Ore.; daughter, Darcy Jackson of Woodburn, Ore.; and five sons, Todd Jackson of Irvine, Calif., Joel Jackson of Bemidji, Minn., Scott Harter of Anchorage, Mark Harter of Juneau, and Paul Harter of Imperial Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Arthur Jackson of San Jose, Calif., and Neal Kirkwood of Donald, Ore.

Jack thoroughly enjoyed living in Alaska and hunting, fishing, traveling and exploring there, but also particularly enjoyed the Pacific Ocean and the western states when he and his late wife traveled south.

After he married "Sandy" Ochsner, they traveled extensively in their Airstream motor home on their own and with the Wally Byam Caravan Club for several years. Jack was a great tease and Sandy would comment that no matter what he said or did, it was almost always "fun." He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and kindness to all.

Burns's Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

We first met Jack at an Airstream rally and he was such a pleasure to be around.
While "Sandy" was busy with Airstream business he walked and talked with those of us in camp. What a joy it was to know him.

We first met Jack and Ruth at a RV Park in Florence, OR, in early 2000, and immediately became good friends. We, and our dear friends, were waiting for our homes to be built. It did not take long for Jack to earn the title as "Sidewalk Supervisor" by the other RV tenants who also enjoyed his friendship. We were delighted when Jack and Sandy became husband and wife. They were a happy couple who enjoyed traveling in their motorhome. We lost a dear friend but will always cherish the wonderful memories we have of him.
