Longtime Anchorage, Alaska, resident James William Romerdahl, 69, passed away at home from natural causes on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016. Born in Everett, Wash., on Feb. 4, 1947, Jim graduated from Everett High School and enlisted in the Navy, serving in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 on a riverboat on the Mekong Delta. He completed his degree in accounting at the University of Washington, earned his CPA designation, and worked for Laventhol & Horwath in Seattle where he met his future wife, Donna.
The Guest Book is expired.
Jim and Donna moved to Anchorage in 1975, when he accepted the position of comptroller for Teamsters Local 959. Jim later began his own financial consulting business, Pacific Advisors, where he served business and financial clients across Alaska, including the Tatitlek Corporation, the American Red Cross of Alaska and AKI. He also owned Pacific Realty for many years. Jim supported numerous business and community groups, serving on the board of directors for Alaska Mutual Bank and Anchorage Historic Properties.
A lover of all things Alaskan, Jim took full advantage of what the state had to offer. He earned his pilot's license in 1983 and spent most weekends fishing the waters of the Susitna River drainage. For years he spent his summers first on the Deshka River, then on Alexander Creek, and finally ended each season on Lake Creek in pursuit of king and silver salmon. He later turned to the open water and spent some of his happiest years exploring Prince William Sound on his boat the Brenda Lee. When he was not outdoors, Jim enjoyed cooking and entertaining: his famous dishes included ribs, barbequed meats and les beans. He was an avid ham radio operator and an animal lover, having welcomed cats, dogs, rabbits and saltwater fish into his home. More recently, he cherished his role as a grandfather, spending time with his grandchildren Chloe, Maddie and Parker, and with his granddog, Ruth, aka Junior.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Donna; his children, Andrew Romerdahl (Carmen) and Elena Romerdahl (Peter Scully); his mother, Jean Rhinehart; sisters, Julie Fisco and Jamie Maurer; brother, Nick Rhinehart; cousin, Wally Parcels; sister-in-law, Jodi Dansky; brother-in-law, Jeff Dansky; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his immediate family, Jim leaves behind many other family and friends whose lives he touched.
A celebration of life will take place Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. at 7041 Crooked Tree Drive. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Food Bank of Alaska or Friends of Pets, two organizations that Jim always supported.
