Janet Faye Titus was born Janet Faye Huffman on June 2, 1935, in Lyons, Ore. She was 82 years old at the time of her death on Sept. 20, 2017. She died at home in Anchorage, Alaska. Janet had lived in Anchorage from 1981 until 1997. Janet and her husband Sheldon had recently moved back to Anchorage to live with their son, Deryl.
Janet graduated, in 1953, from Lyons High School and was married a few days later. Janet and Sheldon were married on June 7, 1953, in Stayton, Ore.; they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year. Janet was a homemaker for those 64 years, with time spent doing the bookkeeping for the family service station in Lake Sawyer, Wash. She worked for JoAnn Fabric and the Anchorage School District as a cafeteria manager at Rabbit Creek Elementary School.
Janet and Sheldon lived in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Arizona. Janet loved to sew and knit, was an avid reader and loved being an active member of churches wherever they lived. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, teaching some of them to sew, loved playing games with them, doing puzzles and having them in her home.
Janet is survived by her husband, Sheldon; her sister, Jeanette Cornell; sons, Deryl and wife Kelly, Duane and wife Theresa and Damon; grandchildren, Mandy, Trisha, Angie, Andrew, Matt, Katie, Michael, Derek, Darian, Dacin and Dario; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Keona, Curtis, Malani, Owen, Emma, Kayla, Kylie, Cody and Wyatt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, George; mother, Ethel; and older sister, Janice.
She had many close friends who will miss her. Many calls, texts and Facebook messages have been received from all over the U.S., and even from South America. Their home was one where all were welcome.
A Celebration of Life for Janet will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at 4 p.m., at Christian Church of Anchorage, 10800 Lake Otis Parkway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Boise Bible College in Idaho in Janet's name.
