Life long Alaska resident Jason Garcia, 50, passed away on May 14, 2016, at Providence hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. A viewing will be held on May 19, 2016, from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Legacy Heritage Chapel at Angelus, 440 East Klatt Rd. in Anchorage. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Jason was born on Nov. 5, 1965, in Palmer, Alaska, to Chris and Delora Garcia. He graduated from Kenai High School in 1984, and Denver Automotive and Diesel College in 1985. From March 10, 1989, his sons, Seth, Chase and Leif, became the mainstay of his life and he loved teaching them his skills as an outdoorsman and craftsman. He and Lynda Hutchins married on Dec. 22, 1999, starting an exciting life full of adventure and friends. Lynda wrote: "Jason touched the lives of everyone he met with his warm heart, generosity and laughter. He loved life and lived it to the fullest, surrounded by friends. He was an accomplished ice hockey player and will be missed for his generous passes and post-game camaraderie. Jason was also an aspiring golfer and enjoyed the trips to Las Vegas, Nev., with close friends. However, his passion was the cabin he built in Petersville, Alaska, where he loved to spend time snowmachining, hunting and four-wheeling. He will be sorely missed by friends who accompanied him on many adventures, followed him places they knew they shouldn't go and were subsequently rescued by him and experienced the beauty of backcountry Alaska because of his innate ability to read the land. We will literally be lost without him. Jason was a General Contractor and owner of Gulf Coast Construction. He was building a beautiful house for us which exemplified his many skills. He was also a long time commercial fisherman." Jason is survived by his sons, Leif Garcia, Chase Garcia and Seth Garcia; parents, Chris and Delora Garcia of Kenai, Alaska; grandpa, Alvin Johnston; English family: wife, Lynda Hutchins; "adoptive son," Matthew Hutchins; sister-in-law, Kate Hutchins; parents-in-law, Eric and Eileen Hutchins; siblings and spouses, Chad and Kathi Garcia, Carla and Ed Salzer, Anthony and Carole Garcia; and nephews and nieces, Alissa, Ashley, Christopher, Elizabeth, Israel, Jessica, Katherine, Kioni, Lexi, Lucas, Lucy and Rebekah. Jason would have preferred that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in lieu of flowers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes Bragaw Chapel.
