Jason Jay Bowden, age 42, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Aug. 24, 2017, in Santa Maria, Calif. Jason was born on Sept. 16, 1974, in Anchorage where he lived, grew up and attended school. He was the oldest of three brothers.
Those who knew Jason knew that he was a very loyal, caring person and a lot of fun to be around. His younger brothers knew from experience that he was amazingly strong and had an almost super-human toughness in all things physical. Unfortunately, he had a life long struggle with addiction, which often overshadowed his strengths and clouded his judgment.
Jason was extremely proud of his daughter, Anika, who was 16 at the time of his death. His biggest regret in life was that he wasn't the dad to Anika that he should have been. However, addiction controlled those desires, making it difficult to build positive relationships. Family was equally important to Jason and he would go to great measures to brag on his two brothers, Josh and Brandon, as well as other family members. He was quick to let others know that he was from Alaska, as this was important to him.
Jason is survived by his daughter, Anika Johnson; brothers, Joshua and Brandon (Jamie) Bowden; niece, Blake Bowden; mother, Jodi (Dave) Forsland; father, Marty (Kristen) Bowden; biological father, Eric Holden; and many uncles, aunts and cousins. Jason was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dick and Betty George and Edward Bowden.
There will be services on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Heritage Chapel at Angelus, located at Angelus Memorial Park, 440 Klatt Road in Anchorage. The schedule of services will include a viewing from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m., followed by a celebration of life and graveside burial. A gathering and remembrance of life will be held at 800 Lighthouse Court following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial account has been established in the name of Jason Bowden Memorial Fund at Go Fund Me. This account was established to purchase a vehicle for Anika, a promise that Jason made prior to his passing.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Legacy Funeral Home.
