JoAnne Alice Mueller, 87, passed away at home on March 10, 2018. She was born on July 24, 1930, in Swedeburg, Neb., to Virgil and Hulda Quick. JoAnne lived in Custer, S.D., eventually moving to Cody, Wyo., and graduated from Cody High School in 1948. She attended the University of Nebraska, graduating with an associate degree in business. It was there that she met the love of her life, Donal Mueller. They were married on Oct. 22, 1950, and were married 67 years at the time of her death.
Don's jobs led them to live in Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming and, in 1969, Alaska. During these moves they had three children: Scott, Becky and Todd. While raising her family, JoAnne operated her own business as a seamstress making window coverings for homes and businesses. For over 30 years, JoAnne also worked as an artist printer for various Alaskan artists, primarily Marianne Wieland, with whom she developed a lifelong friendship.
JoAnne was a dedicated Christian. Throughout her life, she devoted her time, resources and knowledge to serving her church, Zion Lutheran, and her church community. As an extremely accomplished seamstress, she was well known for sewing many of the banners, which still hang in Zion Lutheran today.
JoAnne was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, community member and friend. She will always be remembered for the beautiful times she shared with us all. She dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time baking cookies with them was one of her favorite activities.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jean; and her brother, Charles; and most recently her oldest son, Scott Mueller. She is survived by her husband, Don Mueller of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Becky and son-in-law Gary Ross of Wasilla, Alaska; son, Todd and daughter-in-law Tracey Mueller of Anchorage; daughter-in-law, Ina Mueller of Big Lake, Alaska; granddaughter, Brooke (Craig) Mueller Hartman; grandson, Traeger Anderson; grandson, Bristol Mueller; grandson, Colter (Nikki) Mueller; granddaughter, Kristin (Ryan) LeDonne; great-grandson, Tyrus Mueller; and great-granddaughters, Hazel and Estella Hartman, Tallulah Mueller and Briella LeDonne. She is also survived by many extended family members, including brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Mona Mueller; sister-in-law, Bert Mueller; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of JoAnne on Monday, March 19, 2018, at 5 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, 2100 Boniface Pkwy. in Anchorage, with a reception to follow.
JoAnne's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the heart-felt care she received by the doctors who supported her throughout her fight, especially Dr. Joani Hope, Kathryn Sexson MS ANP, Dr. Linda Smith and all of their wonderful staff.
