John Clayton Obituary

John A. Clayton Jr. was born April 24, 1952, to John and Grace Clayton of Pottstown, Pa. He passed away in Anchorage May 27, 2011.

He was a graduate of Cheyney University in Pennsylvania, as well as Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

He resided in Anchorage and was a longtime employee of AT&T Telephone Co. He was also a teacher at Clark Middle School and owned a tutoring company.

He was a great father and was known as "Johnny" to family and friends. He was a dedicated family man who loved spending time with family and helping others. Johnny spent his life teaching, tutoring and mentoring youths.

He was baptized and accepted Christ at New Hope Baptist Church in Anchorage.

Johnny is survived by his beautiful daughter, Grace Clayton of Anchorage; parents, John and Grace Clayton of Pottstown, Pa.; three sisters, Georgiann Wilson of Pedricktown, N.J., Christeen Williams of Anchorage and Roberta Clayton of New Castle, Del.; four brothers, Larry (Vanessa) Clayton and Francis Clayton of DeSoto, Texas, Frankie Clayton of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Terry Clayton of Anchorage; two foster brothers, Henry and Matthew Harris; and foster sister, Rochelle Harris, all of Pennsylvania. Johnny also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as his longtime companion, Perette Carter.

"Though it saddens us that Johnny has departed his earthly body, it brings us great joy to know that he suffers no more and is with our Father in Heaven, in a far much safer and better place," his family said.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Church of the Redeemed, 1660 E. Patterson St. Photos will be displayed for viewing beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Arrangements were by Alaska Heritage Funeral Home.

My Dearest friend Perette, my loving godchild Gracie, words can't begin to express how much we will miss Johnny. I thank God for the many years we all spent together, the joyous times,the fun and silly times. I loved him like a brother and he was truly my buddy. May the grace of God bless you giving you both strength and comfort during these difficult times, and know that God's grace will see you through. Know that I share your pain and will forever keep you in my heart and prayers. Love you Grace and Perette.

"Grace, Perette and Clayton family. i have had the please of knowing John for many, many years. Not only was he like a brother to me, he was also like an uncle to my children (Sherice, Deon & Danielle) great-uncle to my grandkids (Shaquelle & Dondre) my niece and nephew (Shaun and Jessica). He was a very wonderful teacher as he tutored all of them for years. His smile and knowledge will surely be missed in the days to come.
