John Ernest (Ernie) Martinez Sr, 80, passed away on November 4, 2013 at his home in Anchorage, Alaska of natural causes. He was born in Los Angeles, California and became a resident of Alaska in 1965. He was also a former resident of Arizona, Oregon, Colorado and Washington.

Services were held November 6 at 3pm at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Father Blanco officiated the service. A memorial service will be held in January 2014 in Tucson, Arizona. Dates and times will be determined at a later date.
John graduated from Tucson High School and attended 2 years of college at University of Arizona in Tucson. He served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954 and was veteran of Korean War. John was employed with the US Federal Government, FAA from 1966 to 1981. He was affiliated with the VFW, Moose, Eagles, Elks. John was also part of the Kenai Peninsula River/Stream Watch. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. His hobbies consisted of; tying flies, reloading, camping and being the captain of his boats.
The family states "He will be greatly missed by all his family and especially his wife of 62 years. The best memories with him are sitting around a campfire with family and friends and drinking a cool one'."
John is survived by his wife, Elda Martinez; son, John E Martinez Jr. of Wasilla; daughter, Isabelle 'Janie' Skadsem (Donald) of Anchorage; grandsons, John R. Morrison, Robert J. Morrison, Steven D. Martinez, Alexander J. Martinez, and Darryl B. Skadsem; granddaughters, Jacqueline C. Bohlken (Joseph) and Aimee M. Martinez; ten great grandchildren; and twin sisters, Catherine Martinez and Jacqueline Grijalva.
Arrangements were done by Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
