John Roach Obituary

Former Alaska resident John Robert Roach died Monday, April 18, 2011, in Hilo, Hawaii. He was 65.

John was born Oct. 29, 1945, in Brownwood, Texas.

He joined the United States Marine Corps March 7, 1966, and medically retired July 1, 1967. He was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Ribbon, Vietnamese Service, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with device, and the Combat Action Ribbon.

John moved to Alaska in 1972. He married Patricia Trimble Feb. 12, 1984, in Eagle River.

John was a carpenter, interior partitions mechanic, builder and member of the Alaska Carpenters Local 1281 and Hawaii Carpenters Local 745. He retired in 2008. He worked for Kelly Construction for over 20 years. He worked on many building projects all over the state of Alaska, including the Kenai City Administration Building on the Kenai Peninsula.

John lived a courageous life that left a positive effect on all who met him. We who knew him will cherish our memories of John forever. John will be missed by most because of his sincere, positive "can do attitude," caring heart and love for family and friends. John was a devoted husband, father and best friend to many people around the globe. Johnny was a staunch believer in the concepts upon which America is based, a very loyal American who willingly paid the price for freedom with his blood. Johnny Roach was my best friend for over 40 years and will be missed by all who had the privilege of meeting him. A true son of America's heartland.
