Jose Manuel Hernandez passed away peacefully at Providence Hospital on Oct. 19, 2017, in Anchorage, Alaska, at the age of 71.
Jose is survived by his wife, Sarah; children, Lisa Hernandez, Brian Hernandez of Spain, Claire Hernandez, and Teresa Hernandez all of Oviedo, Spain; sister, Maria del Carmen of La Coruna, Spain; grandson, Roy of Madrid, Spain; daughter-in-law, Marina of Madrid, Spain; son-in-law, Pablo of Oviedo, Spain; sisters-in-law, Carol Ashlock of Anchorage, Laura Ashlock of Anchorage, and Elisa Diaz of Madrid, Spain; brothers-in-law, Gene Ashlock of Austin, Texas, and Hugh of Anchorage; and several nieces and nephews.
Jose was born on April 11, 1946, in La Coruna, Spain, to Antonio Hernandez and Maria del Carmen Corral. He graduated from the Universidad de Madrid with a master's degree in civil engineering. He married Sarah Ashlock in 1976. From 1978 to 1991, he worked in Anchorage at Dimond Center, H4M and Frank Moolin & Associates.
In 1992, he moved his family to Oviedo, Spain, where he worked for Fluor Daniel from 1992 until 2011, when he retired as the head of construction for Fluor Daniel Spain.
He came out of retirement in 2012, and became the Managing Member of Dimond Center LLC, where he worked until his passing.
He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his love of family, sense of humor, and strength.
