Joseph "Joe" Allan Shumaker, 80, passed away in the early morning of Oct. 31, 2015. He was born on Oct. 18, 1935, in Bristol, Tenn., to Howell and Lillian Shumaker. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Juanita, of 56 years. Joe was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved being outdoors and was always helping his neighbors. He served 20 years with the United States Air Force and 20 years with the Civil Service. Joe was survived by his sons, Jon Shumaker with his wife Lynette and Shane Shumaker; daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Byron Ipock; grandchildren, Jessica Menesee with her husband Jay, Lea Montes with her husband Vince, Jessica Devier, Joseph Ipock with his husband Caleb Ipock, Joshua, Tristan Taysom and Jacob, William, Christopher and Elijah Shumaker; and his great-grandchildren, Jaylon, Jianna and Julian Menesee and Kylan and Cason Montes. A visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at Anchorage Baptist Temple with a service at 11 a.m., and a reception afterwards. Joe will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery, with full military honors, at 1 p.m. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
