On Feb. 1, 2018, Joy found her way home after a valiant battle with cancer. What a comfort to know she is at peace with her sister, Donna; daughter, Carrie; and her son-in law, Thomas; to name only three. Anyone who knew Joy knows that after a week in heaven, she probably has shared a word (or many) with everyone.
Beginning her saga on Jan. 1, 1944, as a real Dilly (to Earl and Bernice Dilly), Joy lived in Eagle Creek, Ore., during her tyke years and graduated to Eagle River, Alaska, status in 1979. Joy always enjoyed upgrading. She brought her husband, Jim, and two daughters, Carrie Dawn and Sallyjo, to the Great Land. Her Alaskan resume includes medical and optical offices in Eagle River and then Alaska Eye Care Centers; however, none of these venues satisfied her need to help people on a grand scale: enter Home Optics. Here was her divine appointment enabling her to combine fashion with function. The truth is, she created H.O. to sell glasses no one could provide elsewhere but also to administer advice, offer friendship and dispense cookies to Eagle River, Chugiak, Anchorage and, let's be honest, the world.
Joy loved the Lord Jesus Christ and wanted all to know the source of her true joy. Always having time to listen, tell a story and laugh, she shared the good news with children and adults - always ready to pray with/for them. She will be deeply missed.
To alleviate medical bills, consider donations in lieu of flowers, earmarked "Jim Leedham" at Eagle River Northrim Bank to an account ending in 0633, or to Eagle River Grace Church (P.O. Box 770430, Eagle River, AK 99577) with "benevolence fund" on the memo line. The memorial service was held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018, at Community Covenant Church, Eagle River.
