Karl LeRay Obituary

Karl "Two Tone" LeRay died suddenly on June 16, 2011, while participating in a Harley Davidson motorcycle run from Anchorage to Juneau, AK. He was 48. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with prayer time at 7:00 p.m. at the Evergreen Memorial Chapel on 8th & E. All who wish to attend are welcome.

Karl was born in Kingston, Jamaica. His family immigrated to the United States in 1969. He grew up in New York City. In 1980, he joined the U.S. Army Reserve. He went active duty in 1982. He arrived with his family in Alaska in 1991, and settled in the Anchorage area permanently after his discharge from the Army in 1994. He worked with computers and internet web design.

Karl was a member of the Harley Owners Group and served as the president of the motorcycle safety group A.B.A.T.E. of Alaska. He was also a member of the BNI networking group in Anchorage. He donated much time and energy to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and he enjoyed working on the "Big Alaska Show" every Saturday morning on KFQD. He discovered the joys of amateur photography, and took pictures and rode his Harley Davidson motorcycle whenever the opportunity presented itself. He was a web developer, netizen and nerd; a technophile, Trekkie, a radio jockey that rode a Harley Davidson; and he enjoyed role-playing games.

Karl gave a lot of himself, and his time and energy to many people. He is loved by many and is already greatly missed. He is survived by his mother, Monica LeRay, and his father, Karl LeRay, Sr., both of Florida; and by his daughter and son, Lena and Paul LeRay, both of Anchorage. The family is comforted by the knowledge that Karl passed away doing something he truly loved to do.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to 200 W. 34th Ave #418, Anchorage, AK 99503 or via paypal to [email protected].

Although we didn't know karl personally, we do own his previous bike.We had the privilege of meeting him at the Brown Bear saloon in Indian one afternoon, and he seemed like he always knew us. Introducing himself as "Hay.. I use to own that bike". After light conversation he was gone...seemed like a great guy, he will be missed.

Sincerely
Rick and Jamie Bachman

I had the honor of knowing Karl for many years. He always said what he felt and felt what he said. I feel beyond fortunate to be able to count him as a forever friend.

Ride in peace my friend...the angels do have Harley wings.

On June 16, 2011 at about 1:30 AM two things happened: 1) God called home a Chief of Angels 2) The Earth stopped on its axis. RIP. Love you, Dad.

Karl, the image of him, fills a void differently to each of us. Father, husband, son, comrade, mentor, gentleman, inspiration, partner in crime, each individually, different facets of a life well lived. Each share two things; He was an original and he will be missed. May the pain of his passing be surpassed by the joy of his memory.

I witnessed the massive funeral procession giong down Minnesota. After reading his obit, he must have been the best kind of guy. I know he was well respected just by the number of bikers that went by. From one Trekkie to another..RIP.

Never hesitate to tell those in your life how much you love them and how much they mean to you, for you might not ever have another chance. Ride on Karl, Godspeed.

Although I had just known Karl for a few months before he passed, he had already touched my life in his own way. He was a good man and was becoming a good friend. Karl had a lot on his plate but still took time out of his busy day to grab lunch or see a movie. That was just the kind of man he was. He was loved by many and he will be missed. His memory rides in the wind, carried on a beautiful summer's breeze.

The sun is hot, the snow is cold.
TwoTone rolls on, he'll never grow old.
Statements of the obvious, be they hot or cold,
TwoTone made them, "Where The Rubber Meets The Road".
He never met a stranger,
Always shared a smile.
More than just a brother - he went that extra mile.

Karl rode with my dad and was riding with him when he went down near sutton, Karl took care of my dad and made sure he made it home safe. Karl, I thank you with all my heart, your good nature is forever appreciated and will be missed by everyone you have ever come in contact with. My mom and dad are sad they will not be here to pay thier respects. Enjoy the ride up there! Our deepest condolences to the family.

Karl had the best attitude of all the people that I was fortunate to meet. He brought light into a dark room. I will miss Karl greatly.

So sorry for your loss. Karl was a good and talented man that will be missed by all of us.

Perhaps they are not stars,
but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones
pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.

Karl and I introduced ourselves one evening at the Fire House coffee shop. We enjoyed great nerdy times together. We kept in touch infrequently but did hare a number of laughs on Facebook and via email. He was and will remain a Great Man. Friend and fellow Nerd.

I think about your booming laugh, the weird way your eye opened when you yawned, and the funky way you ate your eggs. You are loved by so many people, and made such impact in all of our lives. Your true love of life and laughter. There isn't a day that has gone by since I've left Alaska that hasn't included thoughts about you and the family. You did a great job with Lena & Paul, You loved Brenda so much. I remember how you liked to frustrate the uninformed with fact, and the road trip to the gorge. I miss you every single day. You are a king among men, a God among mortals.

I was introduced to Karl 10 years ago by the staff at the Muscular Dystrophy Association as "our guy who will do anything for us". Since then I felt fortunate to learn first hand that it was true, and more than just the families MDA serves were saying this. My heart goes out to his family and to the many who could depend on Karl to lift their spirits so effortlessly.

I am sorry for your loss. Reliance on the God of comfort can help you through this most difficult time. "May your loving-kindness serve, please to comfort me." Psalm 119:76

We will miss you, Karl. The world will be a much lonelier place without your great laugh, and our community will be less workable without your energy and volunteerism.
