Former Alaska resident Keith Alan Andree, 50, died Jan. 22, 2009, at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
A service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mish Funeral Home in Bakersfield, Calif.
Keith was born Sept. 13, 1958, in Bakersfield, and grew up in Bakersfield and Reno, Nev., before moving to Alaska in 1974.
Keith and Trudy Gleco were married Feb. 22, 1986, in Anchorage, and had two beautiful children, Brianna Nicole "Nickey" and Kyle Robert. They shared many wonderful times together fishing on the Kenai River in the summer and snowmachining in the winter.
Keith went to work in the oil industry on the North Slope of Alaska in 1976 and worked there until his illness forced his medical retirement from Conoco Phillips in 2004.
Keith had a great love of the outdoors, particularly fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed the beauty of the open road on his Harley Davidson. Keith and his son, Kyle, toured the West Coast on his Harley in 2001 and enjoyed the beauty of the beaches and waters of the Pacific Coast. In 2004, Keith moved to California, where he spent his remaining years.
"Keith was a great adventurer with a tremendous exuberance for life," the family wrote. "Generosity of spirit, sensitivity and kindheartedness were the cornerstones of Keith's foundation. Throughout his life, he had a gregarious personality and never met a stranger. He always opened his heart and lent a helping hand to anyone in need."
Survivors include his children, Nickey Andree, currently of Sydney, Australia, and Kyle Andree of Colorado; mother, Bobbie Seelinger; father, Bob Andree and his wife Katie; sister, Kelly Andree; brother, Kevin Andree; grandmother, Emma Andree; nieces, Brittany Andree and Corinn McCloud of Alaska; nephews, Tom and Alex Turnbull; fiancee, Susan Scanlon and her daughters, Andrea and Megan Kyle; former wife and friend, Trudy Andree; and numerous other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wells Fargo Keith Andree Memorial Account in recognition of his children's college funding. A memorial page in honor of Keith is available for viewing and leaving messages at www.mem.com/Keith Andree, and audio messages to be delivered to Keith's family and played at the memorial services may be left at that Web page.
