Kerry James Spooner, age 60 of Wasilla, Alaska, passed away after a short battle with cancer on the evening of April 26, 2018, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.
He is survived by his partner, Angie Edwards of Wasilla; his three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ross Spooner of Ketchikan, Alaska, Cole and Lyndsey Spooner of Anchorage and Kory Spooner and Samantha Graham of Kenai, Alaska; his two grandsons, Kade and Drayden Spooner and their mother Michelle Wilson of Soldotna, Alaska; and his two granddaughters, Kaylin and Hayden Spooner of Anchorage. He is survived by his brothers, Mike Spooner of Kalispell, Mont., and Lenny Spooner of Baker, Ore.; and his sister, Kim Jung of Fallon, Nev. He is also survived by ex-wives, Kerry Spooner and Cathy Taylor; and four stepsons, Tim, Peter, Chris and John.
Kerry was born on June 17, 1957, in Anaconda, Mont., and lived in Kalispell, where he graduated from Flathead High School in 1975. Kerry went on to become the epitome of an avid fisherman and hunter. Wherever there was good fishing and hunting, Kerry went: Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and finally, Alaska. He had lived in Wasilla, Eagle River, Valdez and Craig. If Kerry wasn't hard at work on the oil fields, he was out on a boat in the middle of the Prince William Sound, or deep in the Denali tundra with a backpack and a rifle.
He taught everyone he met that the secrets to a great life are nature, laughter and surrounding yourself with love. He lived more in his 60 years than some people do in 120. He will be fondly remembered and terribly missed.
Kerry's family will celebrate his life on what would have been his 61st birthday on Sunday, June 17, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to either The at www.cancer.org, or to Providence Hospital at Providence Alaska Foundation, P.O. Box 196604, Anchorage, AK 99519.
