Kimberly Suzanne Woodward, 37, died unexpectedly Jan. 3, 2009, at her home on Elmendorf Air Force Base.
A funeral service will be at noon Wednesday, with a viewing from 10 a.m.-noon, at the Elmendorf Air Force Base Chapel One, 7137 Fighter Drive, with Chaplain Lt. Col. Richard A. Cavens officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
Born Sept. 16, 1971, in Chicago, Kim was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Markle. She graduated from Amundsen High School in 1989. In 1991, Kim joined the U.S. Navy where she honorably served until 1994. Kim and her husband, Kurt, moved their family to Elmendorf in 2002 where they have since been residents.
Kim was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Kim was honored in 2006 with the American Red Cross of Alaska Real Hero Award for workplace safety, and also for the Extended Day Care Provider of the Year Award from Elmendorf Air Force Base in 2004.
Known to her friends as Kim, she was a loving, caring person. She had an especially huge soft spot in her heart for children of all ages. As a professional day care provider, she devoted over seven years of her life to providing a loving, warm place for kids to grow and develop through Air Force Family Child Care Program. Kim loved all children and they gathered around her because of her personality, strength and loving way.
She is survived by her husband, Kurt; children, Kaitlin, Kelli and Brandon, all of the home; parents, Thomas (Mary) Markle; sisters, Kathleen Markle and Pamela Walker; brother, Patrick Markle; uncle, Don Barry; fathers-in-law, Ross Fulton and Robert (Elizabeth) Woodward; and grandmother, Virginia Wasikowski.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hilma "Jean" Fulton on May 3, 2006.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 196613, Anchorage 99519, in Kaitlin, Kelli, and Brandon's names.
