Lifelong Alaskan Laura Mae Brantley, 52, died Jan. 16, 2009, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Nicole Brantley, in Anchorage.
A service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Anchorage Friends Church, 2824 E. 18th Ave. A second service will be later in Kotzebue.
Laura Mae Geffe was born Aug. 18, 1957, in Kiana to the late Mamie Downey Shy of Noatak and the late Karl V. Geffe Sr. of Kiana.
"Laura grew up in Kotzebue and later moved to Anchorage," her family wrote. "She met the love of her life, Benjamin Lavern Brantley, and they were married Dec. 23, 1980. They had four children: Joseph Karl, Victor Frank, Tammy Lynn and Joy Shelom. Later, she had Lei'lani Laura Kiana. Harold Jessup was a part of their lives, is a father figure to Lei'lani, and they both called him 'Hunny.'
"Laura enjoyed reading the Old Testament and had many favorite verses. Revelations 21:4 was shared between her and her husband. Laura enjoyed teaching her children the word of God, beading, cooking, painting, singing; and she always had to have her cup of coffee every morning.
"Laura was a very beautiful person, inside and out. Laura enjoyed the company of her sister, Lottie. She was very strong-willed, never complained, had a great sense of humor and always made do with what she had. She loved being with her family and grandbabies. Laura had the biggest heart and loved her family dearly. She always provided for her family and sheltered her loved ones in need."
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Lavern Brantley; her mother, Mamie; father, Karl; sister, Lottie Kay; brothers, Robert and Edmund Sr.; her "Tatta," Chester Siviq; her aunts and uncles, George, Norma, Allen, Mickey, and Josephine Downey, Rita Curtis, Aileen Frankson, Margie Ticket, Lucy Towksjhea, Lottie Ferreira, Helen Schaeffer and Eugene Geffe.
Laura is survived by the joys of her life, Joseph (Nichole, Serenity and Gavin); Victor (Cheryl, Benjamin and Thea); Tammy (Donny, Laura and Ashlee); Joy and Alesha; and Lei'lani Laura Kiana. Laura considered her brother Grant and Robert Uhl as sons; her significant other Harold Jessup; mom Mollie Geffe; her siblings, Victor, Herman (Tina), Lottie, Karl Jr. (Carrie), Grant (Heather), Teddy (Nina), Bobbie, Allen (Brenda) and Karla Ramero in California. She considered Al Ferreira as a brother; and numerous nephews and nieces; her mother-in-law, Lila Brantley; sisters-in-law, MaryAnn, Wanda, Roberta, Joann, Janice; brother-in-law, Frank; aunt, Irene Gallahorn; best friends, Byrd (Kid) Norton, Janice Smith, Putu Gallahorn; "Oomas," Flora Savok and Liz C.; and her cousin and friend, Elsie Ratcliff.
