Laura was born on May 7, 1944, in Valley City, N.D., to Harold and Lisbet Lockwood. She was soon joined by her sister, Elaine, and then her brother, Harold. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in education from Valley City State Teachers College/University of North Dakota, she moved to Anchorage and became an elementary school teacher and librarian with a master's equivalency in library science. She was an insatiable reader, dedicated to spreading the joy of literature to others.
Laura was an adventurer, philanthropist, and overall troublemaker who loved to knit, fish, garden, travel and play cribbage. She was quick to offer support and bring laughter and joy to others. As an active member and Past Madam President of the state and local aerie of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Laura championed many charities, with distinct sponsorship for Jimmie Durante-Kids Kitchen.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her husband, Vern Rohde; sister, Elaine Manstrom; brother, Harold Lockwood; three children, Tracy, Troy and Tara; and five grandchildren, Danielle, Arianna, Aleah, Annika and Benjamin.
