Lena Norton (Nanaqtauq, Uyaan, Aliiyaq), 80, died Sept. 6, 2010, in Kotzebue.

A service was held Sept. 11 at the Kotzebue Friends Church.

She was born Jan. 17, 1930, to Potomeau and Emma Norton in Noatak.

She was a hard worker. She worked at Ferguson's Restaurant and at the Wein Hotel. After 35 years, she retired from the Indian Health Service as a registered dietitian.

Her family will remember her as one who gave unselfishly. Whenever family or friends visited her, she would ask if they were hungry. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking for everyone.

Lena had no children of here own but had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her brothers, James Norton Sr. and Cyrus Norton Sr. with his wife, Viola. Cyrus and Viola are very grateful for Lena helping support their family all through the years so willingly.

Lena enjoyed talking on the phone with her friends. They include Rachel Adams, Mae Thompson, Lila Jones, Easter Henry, Nellie Forbes, the late Sarah Seeberger, Ida Richards and Catherine Greene.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Potomeau and Emma; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Minnie Norton, Daniel and Betty Norton, Dick and Esther Norton; sister-in-law, Juanita Norton; and two young siblings.

Her family wrote: "'Casting all your care upon Him for He careth for You,' 1 Peter 5:7;

'Jesus, Savior, pilot me and take me home.' "
