Leslie Jean Gilbert, aged 66, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 at her home in Anchorage, Alaska.
Leslie was born Wednesday, July 4, 1951, to Robert A. and Jean Eleanor (Sager) Gilbert, in Reno, Nev. and in 1969, graduated from Sparks High School in Sparks, Nev.
In 1978, Leslie moved to Alaska, living throughout the years in Fairbanks, Fox, Delta Junction, Wasilla, where she received her Associates Degree from Mat-Su College, and finally, Anchorage. She was very proud of her work with the Department of Forestry.
Leslie loved festivals, pow-wows, concerts, gardening, camping, berry picking, going to yard sales, quilting, sewing, scrabble, the State of Alaska and all of the freedoms she enjoyed here. Her family remembers, "She was a kind, loving mother and grandmother who always did the best she could with what she had. She was a free spirit who loved adventure. She was definitely the life of the party and was always willing to lend a helping hand. We will miss her dearly."
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Gilbert; and grandmother, Odessa Sager (Sharpe).
Leslie is survived by her daughters, Dessa Jean Dickerson of Anchorage, Alaska, Roberta Jean Gilbert of Villa Rica, Ga., and Meghann Jean Bailey (McTaggart) of Oxford, Ala.; granddaughters, Rhiannon Eowyn Dickerson, Serene Jean Waddell, Sierra Gilbert Waddell, Starlett Sky Waddell, Bella Dawn Flynn, Brooklyn Rose Bailey and Mattilyn Louise Bailey; and grandsons, Arian Lee Weatherwax and Kameron Carson Waddell.
