Anchorage resident Louis Franklin Hammons, 80, died April 20, 2009, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. A visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St. He was born May 25, 1928, in Ringling, Okla. Louis was retired from the Alaska Railroad, where he had worked as a section foreman from 1950 to 1981. His family wrote: "Louis was a very caring person. He helped many people during his life time. He was a great provider and teacher. He made sure his children never went without. He loved to spoil his grandchildren." He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexzander and Marie Hammons; and his brother, A.W. Hammons. His is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons, Morris, Edward, Gary and Sharon Hammmons; daughters, Ellen Nashalook, Carrie and Clarence Katchatag Jr., Marie Hammons and Bruce Sookiayak; grandchildren, Carline Katchatag, Clyde Jackson, Charlene Katcahatag, Edward Hammons II, Christian Hammons, Cortney Sookiayak, Crystal Katchatag, Landora Hammons, Destiny Mathes, Georgina Mathes; great-grandchildren, Jaylene Katchatag, Charlie Katchatag, Raelene Auliye, A.J. Razon, Devon Mathes and Romel Gutherie. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to the in memory of Louis Hammons.
