Louise Katherine Barth, 80, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017. She was born on Oct. 26, 1937, in Pile Bay, Alaska, to Frank Brooks and Fena Ricteroff.
Louise is survived by her husband, Michael "Mike" Barth; son, Al Evanoff (Suzanne); sisters, Gladys Evanoff, May Alexie, Eleanor Williams and Lulu Howes; brother, William Barber; and countless nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, William Evanoff; son, Lloyd Evanoff; and daughters, Lynn Carlson and Cherie Matson.
Mike and Louise resided in Anchorage until they retired from the USPS. They then moved to Port Heiden, Alaska, to be closer to family. They eventually moved back to Anchorage to have more access to healthcare. Louise fought a long battle of deteriorating health.
She will be remembered for her strength, her love of subsistence lifestyle, her laugh and, most of all, her love for her grandchildren. She told many stories about hunting and gathering in Nondalton, Alaska, with her family. She will be missed dearly. She wouldn't want us to be sad for her, she would want us to carry on her stories and teach our children her way of life, with laughter and strength.
A viewing will be held on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at 10 a.m., with service 11 a.m., at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 401 Turpin Street in Anchorage. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery, 535 East 9th Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the service can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/in-loving-memory-of-louise-barth.
