Lynn "Coach" Roumagoux passed away in his home in Mesa, Ariz., from a failed heart valve. Lynn was born and raised in Oregon, where he met his wife Donna at Lewis & Clark College. He taught in the Portland area for several years before moving his family up the Alcan Highway to Alaska in 1967.
He was an educator, counselor and coach at Dimond High School for 20 years until retiring in 1987. Lynn mentored many "youngsters," as he called them, while coaching 44 teams of cross-country runners, cross-country skiers and track and field. These teams won an unprecedented number of region and state titles during those years. He was named to the Alaska High School Hall of Fame in 2009.
After retiring to Mesa, Ariz., he and Donna taught round dancing for several years and were hired to teach dances at several state festivals.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Donna Russell; children, Annette McDole (Oscar) and Brent Roumagoux (Lori); two brothers; two sisters; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial celebration held at the Kincaid Park Chalet on Sept. 8, 2018, at 2 p.m.
