Margaret Anna Eleanor Kahl Aulabaugh (1926 - 2017)

Obituary

Margaret Anna Eleanor Kahl Aulabaugh died on Sept. 9, 2017, at the age of 91.
She was born May 2, 1926, to dairy farmers Louis and Louise Kahl of Huntley, Ill. She grew up working on the family farm and, after graduating high school, met Gib Aulabaugh, a World War II veteran and television repairman. They married in 1947 and enjoyed hunting pheasants together. They lived in Sycamore, Ill., and later moved to Security, Colo. In 1968, they moved to Anchorage, Alaska, with their four children.
Margaret was strong, patient and giving, and she dedicated her life to children. She was deeply loved and appreciated as a mother and grandmother. She also cared for children at Hillcrest Day Care for 30 years. The children knew her as "Mrs. A." Through Hillcrest, Margaret befriended five women who became dear, lifelong friends: Lois Zieper, Cristann Swanda, Marlene Goldade, Gen Scott and Jenny Lykins. In her retirement, she spent much of her free time caring for her youngest grandchildren and crocheting blankets for children in the hospital.
Margaret regularly attended services at Central Lutheran Church, until she was no longer physically able. Her faith in God was unfailing.
Margaret is survived by her sister, Ann of Tomah, Wis.; her sister-in-law, Ruth of Huntley, Ill.; and by her four children and their spouses: Roger and wife Bonnie of Marysville, Wash.; Carol and husband Gary of Anchorage; Bruce and wife Hanli of Perth, Australia; and Stan and wife Diane of Anchorage. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gib.
