Margaret Elaine Allworth McDonald, "Pegge," passed away on March 3, 2018, at home in Palmer, Alaska, surrounded by family, after a yearlong battle with lung cancer.
Pegge was born on Feb. 21, 1926, to William Henry Allworth and Margaret Ruth Cole Allworth (Sept. 21, 1921 - March 15, 1927) in Portland, Ore. Pegge was married to Wesley John Milton II from 1941-1942; Alfred James Christensen, "Jim," from April 12, 1949, until his passing on July 8, 1967; and Roger William McDonald from March 1, 1969, until her passing on March 3, 2018.
Pegge graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1942. She worked as a certified civilian welder in the Portland Shipyards in 1942. Pegge helped her husband, Jim Christensen, in the Model Cafe and Bakery in Cordova, Alaska, and the Peggelee Bakery in Eagle River, Alaska, prior to his death. Pegge was a housewife and foster parent for many years prior to her husband, Roger McDonald, retiring from the Alaska Railroad. She lived throughout Alaska before finally settling in the Butte area of the valley, where she enjoyed gardening and her many grandchildren. One of her favorite memories was flying to Unalakleet, Alaska, to fish with her sons and grandchildren and sitting around the wood stove at night telling her grandchildren stories about the depression and how they lived at that time. Her spouse of 49 years, Roger McDonald, was a wonderful blessing in her life and took great care of his "sugar."
Pegge's children are: Wesley John Milton III (deceased), Peggelee Kendro, William "Willie" Christensen (TC), Kelly Michael Christensen (Ginger), Barbara Crossen (Bob), Bob Christensen (deceased) and Carl and Sheila McDonald. Her grandchildren are: James "Jim" Burke (Vicki), Robert "Bobby" Burke (Ginger), Fanetta Higley (Kenney), Yvonne Bay (Bob), Angelique "Angel" Strik (Phil), Gabrielle "Lainey" Christensen, Billy Christensen (Heather), Calla Christensen and Kelly David Christensen (Cindy). She had many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Rio Santiago Contreras.
A very special thank you to Katmai Oncology Clinic and the Mat-Valley Hospice workers for their love, concern and care for our mother, along with our dad, Roger McDonald. All the love of family members and friends was so greatly appreciated - it takes a family and a community-hospice became part of our family and we are deeply indebted to them.
It was Pegge's desire that there be no funeral or services held. There will be a Celebration of Life held at the time of the spreading of her ashes. Time to be announced.
