Margaret A. Larkey, 76, passed away on April 12, 2016, at Providence Hospital with her family by her side. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Legacy Funeral Homes & Cremations Services, 440 East Klatt Road in Anchorage, Alaska, with a reception immediately afterwards at Bayshore Clubhouse, 3131 Amber Bay Loop in Anchorage. Margaret was born in Holidays Cove, W.Va., on Dec. 24, 1939, to Alexander and Alice Hickman. She graduated from Follensbee High School in 1958. While riding a bus a young man saw her and asked her if she was Muriel's sister and she said yes; he told her that he was going to marry her one day. So, on April 5, 1959, Margaret Hickman married the love of her life, Robert L. Larkey. In May 1963, Robert and Margaret, along with their three young daughters, drove the Alaska Highway to settle in Anchorage. They went on to have three more children. Our family lived in the Spenard area until 1987, when they purchased a home in Bayshore. Margaret loved to fish, especially for king salmon, and spending time with her family in Kenai, Alaska. She was a great cook and made the best pancakes. Margaret worked for Civil Service in the 1960s, and was the cafeteria manager at Northern Lights ABC School in the '70s. After that, she was a stay at home mom for her children and grandchildren. Margaret was a very supportive mother: she was the President of the Spenard Little League, was a coach for girls fast pitch softball and was involved in youth hockey back in the day, when her son, Rob, played. She would always find the time with all her kids to watch whatever sport they were in. She would always help out with things at her kid's schools. At our home mom always welcome and fed kids in the neighborhood. She would pick up kids for hockey no matter where they lived. Margaret is survived by her six children, Peggy Larkey, Kim Larkey-Sylvester (Jeff), Vicki Larkey, Rob Larkey (Tanya), Dawn Larkey-Stephens and Jamie Larkey; she is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Justin Scott (Sam), Machell Larkey, Alan Larkey, Mark Stephens (Courtney), Benjamin Sylvester, Marissa Stephens-Ebbers (Michael), Robi Nicole Larkey, Tyler Sylvester, Travis Sylvester, Robbie Larkey III and Olivia Larkey; and six great-grandchildren, Brayden Scott, Mason Stephens, Odin Scott, Zander Larkey, Conrad Ebbers and Phillip Ebbers. Margaret is survived by many nieces and nephews and her niece, Lynn Robinson, who she was close to. She is proceeded in death by her late husband, Robert Larkey Sr.; her parents, Alex and Alice Hickman; and siblings, Annabelle Hartman, Muriel Reitter, Nancy Potts and James Hickman. Our family has lost a wonderful mother, grandmother and Gigi; she will always be in our hearts. She has left a very long and distinguished legacy. If you would like to send condolences to the family, please send them to the Larkey family at 3541 Kachemak Circle, Anchorage, AK 99515.
