This picture was taken in July 1998 when Marilyn and I took an excursion together to Guyaquil, Ecuador. She always had an easy smile on her radiant face. I admired her adventurous nature; she was always interested in people and curious to learn more about other cultures. Ruhe in Frieden, Freundin!

I met Marilyn in Ecuador in the late 90s in a language school in Quito. She was 74 and I 28, but let me tell you she was an absolute powerhouse. She danced Salsa after the regular Spanish classes as if there was no tomorrow. She didn't break a sweat. Her zest of life was inspiring. She did not mince her words, she was hilarious. We went on two extended weekend trips together, to Cuenca and Guayaquil. Those trips were something to make a film of, such an adventure, filled with drama and thrill. I have so many pictures of her. Maybe her family want to have them. Marilyn and I stayed in contact for years after. And then silence. I went on google to find her book she told me about. I only remember it had something to to with snakes...that's when I stumbled over her obituary. You had a long life and still I feel tears slide down my face. I truly believed, yiu would live forever! Marilyn, thank you for the absolute privilege to meet you and spend time in your orbit. You were a light figure to me and you always will be. I love you!

Marilyn was a good friend of mine and I will always have nice memories of how she helped me in Alaska when I needed a place to stay. She will be missed greatly I am sure by many people.

I remember reading Marilyn's book about the TB epidemic and the sorrow it brought to families in Alaska. She and Dr. Mills were the ones who taught me wound care in Alaska. She was the best mentor,as a Physical Therapist that anyone could have. I will never forget her red hair, her humor, and her compassion, and her willingness to be a lifetime learner. I will miss her smile always. My deep condolences to her family.
