Marion Joan Hennessey passed away peacefully in her sleep due to complications from COPD and dementia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Donald Hennessey.
Joan moved to Alaska with her husband in 1952, and raised her family of four boys pioneer style. She was active in their growing years in Cub Scouts, PTA, hockey and homemaking. She was known for her delicious cinnamon rolls and breads. When her kids were in their teens she went to work for Adams Stationary. She also worked for her cousin operating a radio connecting the bush with the outside world. Joan was active in Lions, Democratic Party and Teamsters with her husband after they retired. She will be greatly missed, by family and friends, for her gregarious nature.
She is survived by her sons: Michael and Eugenia of LaConner, Wash., Donald Hennessey, Stephen and Lynelle Hennessey and Terry Hennessey, all of Anchorage, Alaska. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Mary Hennessey, Elizabeth Peters Naughton and her husband Will, Jacob Baniky and his partner Jessica Bell and Victoria Hennessey, all of Anchorage. Great-grandchildren include: Addie Peters, who preceded her in death, and Rose, Henry and Luchen, all of Anchorage.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at the Baxter Bible Church.
