Anchorage, Alaska, resident Mary Kathryn Campbell Bovee Milliman passed away peacefully at Providence Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, on Aug. 30, 2017, after suffering a massive stroke on Aug. 24, 2017. She was 86.
Kathryn was born on Dec. 28, 1930, in Wichita, Kan., to Raymond Edwin Campbell and Maxine Amanda Brewer. She grew up in Northern California and graduated from Amijo High School in Fairfield, Calif., in1949.
She married Wayne Bovee in 1951, and they had four children: Elaine (John) Kiernan, Kent Bovee (deceased), Grant Bovee and Reed (Kristy) Bovee. She moved to Anchorage in 1966. Kathryn divorced her first husband in 1970, and, in 1971, she married her husband of 40 years, Frank Milliman, gaining seven stepchildren: David (Karen) Milliman, Carol (Tom) Monington, Jeanette (Dwight) Lassen, Dianna (Ron) Estes, Micheal (Gloria) Milliman, Susan (Ernie) Walker and Peggy Murray.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which she joined at the age of 12. She served as Ward organist on-and-off for 60 years (her calling at the time of her death), and she also served as Ward and Stake Primary presidents, and Stake Communication Director. With her husband Frank, she served in the LDS Tennessee Nashville Mission. She also served as scribe for her husband while he was Stake Patriarch and she was a Temple Worker in the Alaska Anchorage Temple on Wednesday mornings.
In her teen years she worked in her parents' printing business and as a telephone operator. She also worked alongside her husband at their business, Alaska Printing.
Her hobbies included music, reading, travel, family history, Broadway shows, family and friends. She was delighted by her iPhone and Facebook, where she kept up with 563 Facebook friends. She had a darling, and sometimes impish, sense of humor. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, "My Darling" or "MD"; her parents; son, Kent; and sisters, Ramona Koop and Royce Twitchell. In addition to her children and their spouses, she is survived by her sister, Sande Campbell; brother-in-law, Noel Twitchell; many nieces and nephews; and by 43 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, all who love her dearly.
A funeral is planned at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Strawberry Chapel, on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at noon, with a viewing at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at Fort Richardson National Cemetery at noon, where she will be buried with her eternal companion, Frank.
