Mary Patricia Everett stepped nearer to the presence of God on Monday morning, Oct. 9, 2017. Mary was 68 years old.
Mary surrendered her final breaths, peacefully, at home surrounded by her husband and children. The love, prayers, and spiritual companionship of friends and family could be felt championing alongside Mary, in her final hours.
Mary came to Alaska with her parents, Amos and Florence Duggins, in 1967. The U.S. Air Force stationed Chief Master Sergeant Amos D. Duggins in Alaska after having served in Washington D.C. for most of his daughter, Mary's, life.
It wasn't long after arriving in Alaska that Mary met her "mountain man," Frank. The two were married in April of 1970 and have been inseparable all the years since. Mary loved to affectionately refer to Frank as "Grizzly Adams."
Mary and Frank had two children, Melissa (Missy), born in 1973, and Reese, born in 1978. Mary was very proud of the fact her children were raised to be avid outdoorsmen, and they both remain so to this day.
Mary was well known throughout the Mat-Su Valley, due in part to her involvement in faith-based organizations, community charities, and her career as a customer service rep at Matanuska Telephone Association. Her kindness was famous, her laugh infectious, and her smile could light up the darkest corner of a room.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, Amos and Florence Duggins; her brothers Bruce and Michael; her father-in-law, Glenn Everett; her mother-in-law, Betty Everett; her sister-in-law, Joan Duggins; and her nephew, Gary Nilges.
Mary is survived by her husband, Frank Everett; and their children, Melissa Everett Laggis (Michael) and Reese Everett (Andrea), along with her siblings, Dave Duggins (Mary), Kathy Nilges (Dan), Timothy Duggins, and Patrick Duggins (Lucia); sister-in-law Glenna Brady (John) and Peggy Boswell (Dan); mother-in-law, Ann Everett; and four grandchildren, who will miss her terribly, Rebekah and Benjamin Laggis and Katie and Julianna Everett; along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m., at Janssen's Mat-Su Funeral Home located at 6901 E. Blue Lupine Road, Palmer, Alaska. A potlatch style reception to follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations, in Mary's name, to the Wasilla Public Library; 500 N.
