Mary (Ertter) Trueblood (1922 - 2016)

Obituary
The Guest Book is expired.

Mary (Ertter) Trueblood died peacefully on Dec. 17, 2016, at age 94, in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born on March 26, 1922, in Boise, Idaho, and married Burtt "Bud" Trueblood on Dec. 26, 1941. They farmed near Wilder, Idaho, and raised three sons. Seeking new opportunities, they drove to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1952, and operated Shaw Creek Lodge, 77 miles south of Fairbanks, for a few years. Bud worked construction and Mary ran the lodge and bar. She did all the cooking - including home-made pies which always sold out quickly - rented rooms and dealt with customers. She cooked on a Majestic wood range, and her sons provided kindling and wood for fuel.
In December 1954, they left Shaw Creek and moved to Anchorage. Mary's expertise in commercial art led to a career first with Sears, Roebuck & Co., and later with Northern Commercial Company. She managed window displays and advertising at both businesses. Anchorage provided a good life for Mary. She enjoyed her work and made many life-long friends.
Burtt and Mary returned to Idaho, in 1963, to restore the family farm, which they operated until Burtt's death in 1987. Mary later sold out and moved into Caldwell, Idaho. In declining health, she moved to Anchorage in 2010, to be nearer to her sons and resided at Sourdough Sue's ALH.
She was predeceased by her husband, Burtt; and her son, Tom. Her sons, Tim and Ted, survive her.
