Mason Lagstrom Obituary

On Sept. 8, 2010, Mason Peter Lagstrom, 32, died in his sleep at home in Anchorage from a heart attack.

A celebration of his life will be today at Chapel of the Cross, Church of the Nazarene, 12230 Hillside Drive. The viewing begins at 11 a.m. and a memorial service at noon. The Rev. Don McCullough and Pastor Jennifer Linnell will officiate. Burial will be afterward at Angelus Memorial Park. Everyone is invited after the burial for a time of fellowship at Chapel of the Cross.

Mason was born June 13, 1978, in Spokane, Wash., to Gary and Laura Lagstrom.

He graduated from Service High School in 1997 and Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, in 2001. He married the love of his life, Angelle Norris, on June 2, 2001, at Chapel of the Cross.

His family wrote: "Mason was a gift from God. He had an infectious smile, was hard-working, humble, honest, loving, kind-hearted, and a wonderfully dedicated husband and father. Mason's generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to all who knew him. He lived his life with integrity which was based on his love for the Lord. There are no words to describe the void he has left in our lives. We do know, according to God's perfect Word, we will be reunited again in Heaven."

Mason worked at Spenard Recreation Center, then for five years at Best Buy for the Geek Squad. His favorite pastimes were spending time with Angelle, their boys, family and friends; going dipnetting and four-wheeling; and embracing new technology at work.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Angelle; sons, Elijah (3) and twins Silas and Isaac (14 months); parents, Gary and Laura; siblings and spouses, Gary Jr. and Michelle Lagstrom of Knoxville, Tenn., Neil and Cindy Lagstrom of Anchorage, and Letitia and Joel Brisson of Anchorage; nieces and nephews, Skylar Lagstrom, Jessica and Matthew Lagstrom, Josiah, Lelaina and Jonah Brisson, and Aurora Norris; and in-laws: Glenn and Toni Norris, Jason and Rae Norris and JoBeth and Seth Adams.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at www.masonsboys.org, which provides ways to help Angelle and the boys.

When I look back at where I 've been in my life and who I've met, Mason was always one that stood out to me. Always a voice of reason and understanding, Mason was one of those sincerely nice people that you don't meet everyday. So sorry for Angelle and the boys, I wish you the best and remember that this man's spirit lives on his 3 boys and our world is better for that.

I was a Service football cheerleader and I remember Mason quite well. It always impressed and touched me that, no matter how rowdy or goofy the guys on the team could be, Mason constantly had a kind word or look for everyone. When we cheerleaders made the team their locker posters, I consistently requested to make Mason's, out of respect for his generous spirit and sincerity. I usually went over the top for Maosn's posters, with cartoon drawings all over, fun lettering and heavy on the glitter, but I always felt that Mason's positive and fun attitude deserved the sparkles! Mason was an exceptional player and a wonderful person. My heart goes out to all of his loved ones. I know that Mason is watching from Heaven and caring for you all. God Bless you all, and most especially, Mason.

I was blessed to have Mason as my brother-in-law. He set the standard for me in choosing a mate. His integrity, honesty, humbleness, & unconditional love, among others, created an incredible legacy that will live on in all those who met him.

There is no doubt in my mind that on Judgement Day, God will smile at him & say, "You have done well, my good & faithful servant."

Mason's goals each day were to live out his life as a Godly man, make life as good as he could for his beloved wife and precious sons, and strive for excellence in all that he did. He was everything a parent could want in a husband for their daughter and father of their grandchildren.

His parents did an amazing job of raising him. They instilled values in Mason which he exemplified daily.

Words cannot express the loss that we feel with his passing. We are committed to impressing upon his sons the true greatness of their father.

Mason, I wish I could say that we kept in better touch after high school. I remember the smile and camaraderie that we shared my Junior his senior year of Football. He was my right hand man Jason my left. We the offensive lineman the doggies as Jason liked to call us. I'll miss not being able to talk about the old times and catching up with my old football pal. It was well over due.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of this fine man.

I met Mason at Spenard Rec Center and saw him each time I attended the Anchorage Pentecostal Tabernacle church which is held in the large meeting room. I wondered what he moved on to after he stopped working there.

I then was blessed to find him again recently as my neighbor! We would see each other mowing the lawn or taking out the trash or passing each other on the street. Hard working dads that we were, we talked about typical neighbor king of things and appreciated having a neighbor worthy of knowing.

I did not know Mason well but I saw what kind of person he was and it was evident he was a good man and I will miss him.

I extend my deepest condolences to his immediate and extended family.

To the Lagstrom and Norris Family,

Our deepest sympathy is with you in the loss of your loved one. We feel so blessed to have met Mason and to have been able to listen to his fond memories of childhood and of his Dad during Gary's retirement dinner. What a special memory that will be for all who attended. We are shocked by Mason's sudden death and deeply saddened for his family's loss, but we know that your faith in God will keep you strong.

With deepest sympathy,

Dan & Lisa Bryant

I had the wonderful luck to meet this wonderful family when I photographed Angelle during her pregnancy with the twins. Over the next two years I got to see them a few more times and I was always struck with how Mason looked at Angelle. You could just tell he loved her. He will be greatly missed by so many.

I just feel so fortunate that I had the opportunity to meet and know him even if just for a short time.

Mason had one of the most beautiful spirits I've ever seen in a person. He was funny, gentle, and kind. He always had compassion for those around him. He never stopped smiling, and you couldn't help but smile back at him. One of the most wonderful people I've ever known.

It was with shock that Richard & I learned of Mason's untimely death. He was our favorite"geek" and for several years, he took care of the computer problems we had. Mason never lost patience with us, even though we were two "computer dinosaurs" who often took more than one explanation before we grasped the problem and solution. We often joked that we'd have to set aside a bedroom just for him or put him on the payroll because of the amount of time he spent with us.

He had the biggest heart I've ever met, a ready, sweet smile, and a love of life and all the happiness it could bring. His family was his joy and his eyes lit up every time he spoke of them. Men like him are rare and he will be greatly missed.

We know you're filled with grief right now, but don't forget that God gave us tears to help bear unimaginable pain. Let them flow in healing. It will take some time, but eventually the many happy memories you have of Mason will fill the aching hole in your hearts and you can speak of him, once again, with only love.

Our hearts go out to you and we hold you in our prayers.

With Deepest Sympathy,
Richard and Nancy Anthony
