My little man, Mason C. Smith, 21 of Anchorage, AK died Saturday, November 19, 2016. Mason was a beloved son, grandson, nephew, brother, cousin and friend to many. He was born April 16, 1995 in Ada, OK, the son of Kristy Wimberley and James Smith Jr. He was a 2012 graduate of Highland Tech Charter School and studied Biochemistry at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Mason was employed by Enstar Natural Gas as a Customer Service Representative. He was passionate about politics/ current events and loved a good debate. He loved to read, garden, and anything with computers. He was a connoisseur of cheese and fine dining. Mason, loved people, he was passionate about helping others.

He is survived by his mother Kristy Wimberley of Anchorage, AK, father James Smith Jr., granny, Phyllis Wimberley of Anchorage, AK, meme, Sandra Smith of Ada, OK, half siblings Saige, Ronan, and Ryann Smith of Warrenton, VA, Aunt Misty Oakley, spouse Bruce Oakley of Eagle River, AK, Great Aunt Donna Gould, spouse Ronny of Eagle River, AK, Great Aunt Kathy Mackey, spouse Calvin of Ada, OK along with many cousins, friends and his beloved dog Jake. He is preceded in death by his papa, James Dennis Smith, Sr. of Ada, OK and Aunt Lisa Thurman of Ada, OK.

Now, Mason finally is at rest and I hold him close within me. Please hold him close as I do, in your mind and your spirit. Remember the meaning of this tragedy. If a young man or woman says maybe I'll kill myself, tell someone. Don't leave them alone. And let us find and encourage within ourselves, within our society those gifts that make each of us special: not star power, not intellectual prowess, but the ineffable mystery and extraordinary beauty of the simple human heart.

A memorial service will be held at Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home located at 11621 Old Seward Highway Monday, November 28 at 6:00 pm.
