It is with great sadness that the families of Michael Anthony Kuphaldt announce his passing on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the age of 39 years.
Michael A. Kuphaldt (Nayamin) of Anchorage, Alaska, was born on July 24, 1978, in Bethel, Alaska, to Steven Lee Kuphaldt of Eklutna, Alaksa, and Marie Bell of Hooper Bay, Alaska. Michael spent his summer years with his Hooper Bay family and his school years with his Eklutna family.
He was a good-hearted man and loving father, who was always willing to help anyone in need. He was very proud of his native heritage; he learned his native language from Hooper Bay and respected his elders by learning from their stories. Michael enjoyed hunting seal and fishing in Hooper Bay. He also enjoyed hiking hunting trails to fishing spots around Eklutna. He was a very proud father who adored his children. He met Sonia Chayalkun in 1996, together they had daughters, Alyssa and Christiane. He and Sonia parted ways. In 2004, he met Ida Smart and together they had Joann, Angel, Steven, Roshina, Zeke, Wiley and Arizona Kuphaldt.
Michael is survived by his daughters, Alyssa Chayalkun, Christian Chayalkun, Joann Kuphaldt, Angel Kuphaldt; and sons, Steven Kuphaldt and Zeke Kuphaldt; grandmother, Margaret Kuphaldt; uncle, Harold Kuphaldt; aunt, Ellen Leisner; and many other loving relatives.
