"He will be the first in line for his demise, but surprise even Death by leaving early."
Michael Howard Rock, age 63, went home to be with the Lord and his parents, William and Rita Rock, on Sept. 13, 2017, after striking a moose on the Glen Highway. Mike, beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, is survived by his sons, Michael, Kenneth, James, Anthony and Larocco; his grandchildren, Madison, Jacob, Ethan, Brooklyn, Jasmyne and Stella; his sister, Lynda; and his brother, James; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Mike's kind, gentle and loving spirit will live on always in the hearts of his family and friends.
Mike was born in Ravenna, Ohio, but was an Alaska resident for more than 40 years, and was a retired member of the Alaska Laborers' Union Local 341. He was a soft-spoken man with a big heart and an innate willingness to always help others. His love of dogs was a constant in his life and he moved most naturally on his Harley. He left a trail of melodic beauty tumbling in his wake, bringing harmony back into churches and homes by tuning, regulating, restoring, repairing, refinishing and moving pianos via the New Tunes Piano Service business that he owned.
A memorial service will be held celebrating Michael's life on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at 12 p.m., at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 1600 Domain Lane in Eagle River, Alaska. Mike will be laid to rest beside his father in Ravenna, Ohio, following a second service there.
